Algal DHA Cuts Triglycerides

A new analysis of 11 studies has determined that DHA supplementation

from algal oil (a marine source of omega-3 fatty acids extracted from algae) can reduce triglycerides and increase levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.

It can also increase LDL (bad) cholesterol, although researchers noted that the larger cholesterol particles associated with DHA supplementation may mitigate cardiovascular risk. All of the participants in the studies were free of heart disease.
